The more recent version of Rainmeter requires authors to create new skin suites or packages with the use of Rainmeter’s. In fact, Rainmeter skins have their own skin format, which is the.rmskin format.
The user should never download a file with the extension.exe claiming to be Rainmeter skin. (Or re-launching the RMSkin file, in case you still have it. Download Rainmeter Skins in Precise Format. (They're kept in the Rainmeter directory under My Documents, in subfolders per each skin.) If the skin didn't come with Rainmeter, that means re-downloading it from wherever you found it in the first place. You'd have to remove the skin information entirely and re-install it. If you want to undo changes you've made to skins, that's a lot harder, since Rainmeter doesn't keep track of older versions of skins. That'll remove all position information from Rainmeter, so you can load up your skins again and place them as you like. If you just want to unload the positions of skins, you can go to Manage (double-click the systray icon) > Layouts tab, then save an empty theme by checking 'Save as empty theme' and 'Exclude unloaded skins' (not sure about the latter, but no reason not to), putting some name into the text box below it (I called mine 'clear'), hitting Save, then selecting the newly created layout on the right and clicking Load.
